Every year in January in Quartzsite, Arizona there is a meet up of a “tribe” of nomads.
The event is called the RTR (Rubber Tramp Rendezvous) it is put on by Bob Wells of Cheap Rv Living. Bob invites his youtube viewers all nomad to join him for two weeks in the desert.
These two weeks are jammed packed with education on how to survive as a nomad. Whether it be in your car, van or RV. You learn about things like solar energy, cooking with solar, boondocking (life off-grid) and he even invites you to travel to Mexico for inexpensive dental and medications. At first, I was skeptical about traveling out of the country but Bob has been making the trip for several years and assured us that it was all was safe. After much debate, we decided to Mexico and what fun we had. We went back 3 days in a row.
Throughout the two weeks and the RTR people were encouraged to sign, write their hopes and fears for the new year on a handmade wooden van structure. Burning the van would symbolize letting going of your fears and sending off wishes for the new year. The RTR represents a “Tribe” of nomads, wondering this beautiful country as Bob Wells calls it. A wonderful time was had by all as we sang an awesome song to tune with “On The Road Again” by Willie Nelson. We were blessed to have gentlemen with the perfect voice sing for us and play the guitar while we enjoyed the campfire. The young girl in the video was the sweetest thing, she shared her popcorn with everyone that wanted some. All in all, we had a blast sharing and singing around the campfire. We plan on attending the RTR as an annual event. Hope to see you there, all are welcome.
